Preparing an Event Security Plan
Magnetic Security editorial team ·

Whether you are organising a corporate function, a wedding or a school event, a short written security plan will help everyone know their role.
Before the event
- Visit the venue and note entrances, exits, parking and any areas that should be off limits.
- Estimate attendance and how guests will arrive.
- Decide how guests will be checked in: invitations, lists or wristbands.
- Agree responsibilities between organiser, venue and security provider.
Access and crowd flow
Separate entry and exit routes where you can. Plan queues so that they do not block roads or emergency access.
Vehicles and parking
Assign officers to direct vehicles and watch parked cars. Keep a route open for emergency vehicles.
Communication and escalation
Name one security supervisor who will liaise with the organiser. Agree who will call whom if there is a medical emergency, a fight or a lost child.
Emergency and evacuation
Everyone working at the event should know the exits and the assembly point. Brief officers before guests arrive.
After the event
Hold a short review. Record what worked and what did not, so the next plan is better.
