CCTV & Electronic Security
CCTV and electronic security designed from a site survey
Cameras are most useful when they are placed for a purpose, lit properly and watched or reviewed by someone with a procedure to follow. Magnetic offers CCTV monitoring, intelligent dashboard cameras, perimeter protection and related electronic security installations, with CCTV controllers where monitoring is part of the agreed service.
Typical security challenges
- Blind spots and cameras that do not capture usable images
- Footage nobody reviews until after an incident
- Recording retention that is too short, or access permissions that are too broad
- Systems installed separately from guarding and access control
Our proposed approach
We survey the premises, agree what each camera must see (deterrence, identification, or overview), recommend equipment to match, install and configure it, then train your team and agree maintenance.
What is included
Service components
Site survey and system design
Identify entrances, vulnerable areas, lighting and cabling routes; define coverage objectives for each camera position.
Camera selection and installation
Fixed and PTZ cameras, night-capable devices where the site requires them, installed and configured to the design.
Recording and retention
Recorder capacity and retention period set against your needs and applicable privacy obligations.
Remote viewing
Secure remote access for authorised staff where the client wants it, with credential control.
CCTV controllers
Trained staff to monitor screens and log events, where monitoring is part of the contracted service.
Maintenance and support
Scheduled checks, fault reporting and agreed support arrangements after installation.
Operational and management considerations
- Camera positions, lighting and field of view should be reviewed together; a camera without light at night is of limited use.
- Signage, retention periods and who may view footage should be set out in a written policy that respects privacy law, including the Data Protection Act, 2019.
- Availability of advanced analytics or centralised monitoring depends on the equipment specified and is confirmed in the proposal.
Benefits
- Records events for review and investigation
- Extends the reach of each officer
- Scales from a few cameras to multi-site systems
Limitations to be aware of
- Cameras record; they do not by themselves stop an incident
- Image quality depends on lighting, placement and maintenance
- Monitoring is only as effective as the procedure and staffing behind it
Frequently asked questions
Do you monitor cameras?
We offer CCTV controllers and monitoring as part of agreed services. The extent of monitoring (on-site, hours covered, remote) is defined per project in the proposal.
Can I view cameras from my phone?
Remote viewing can be configured where the recorder and network allow it, with controlled user access.
How long should footage be kept?
There is no single answer. Retention depends on your risk, storage and privacy obligations; we agree it with you during design.
