Access Control Systems

Know who can enter, where, and when

Access control replaces uncontrolled keys and open doors with permissions you can grant, review and withdraw. Magnetic offers biometric installations and works with front-office security officers and visitor procedures so that technology and people support each other.

Typical security challenges

  • Lost or copied keys and unrecorded door use
  • Visitors moving through premises unescorted
  • Former staff or contractors retaining access
  • Tailgating through controlled doors

Our proposed approach

We map entrances and restricted areas, decide the right credential type for each, set up user permissions and a review routine, and align reception and guard procedures with the system.

What is included

Service components

Card and tag readers

Proximity credentials that can be issued, suspended and replaced centrally.

PIN-based entry

Suitable for low-risk internal doors or as a second factor with another credential.

Biometric readers

Fingerprint-based installations for higher-security areas, with enrolment and privacy handling agreed with the client.

Permissions and schedules

Who may enter which door at which times, reviewed regularly.

Audit logs

Records of entry events to support investigations and periodic access reviews.

Visitor management

Visitor registration and pass procedures, supported by front-office security officers.

Operational and management considerations

  • Access rights should be reviewed when staff join, move or leave; assign an owner for this process.
  • Biometric data is personal data and must be collected with a clear purpose, secure storage and a retention rule.
  • Fire exits must remain compliant; electronic locks are designed to fail safely.

Benefits

  • Removes dependence on physical keys
  • Immediate withdrawal of lost or expired credentials
  • Evidence trail for incidents

Limitations to be aware of

  • Needs ongoing administration to stay accurate
  • Does not on its own stop tailgating without procedures or supervision
  • Power and network resilience must be planned

Frequently asked questions

Which is better: cards or biometrics?

Neither is always better. Cards are simple and scalable; biometrics suit smaller high-risk areas. We recommend by area, not one-size-fits-all.

Can the system link to CCTV?

Where the equipment supports it, door events can be linked to camera views. This is confirmed during design.

What about visitors?

We recommend a registration and pass process run by front-office officers, using the system for staff and contractors.
